WTF?

In honor of South Africa hosting the world cup, a restaurant in Arizona has been serving a lion burger, which is rightfully causing quite a bit of backlash from animal rights activists!

Apparently, the meat being used is from an actual lion friend raised at a free range farm in Illinois, and although it’s uncommon to eat that kind of meat, it’s not illegal.

The owner of the restaurant in question, Il Vinaio, Cameron Selogie, says:

“In Africa they do eat lions, so I assume if it’s OK for Africans to eat lions then it should be OK for us. We thought that since the World Cup was in Africa that the lion burger might be interesting for some of our more adventurous customers. Most of them, when we tell them the facts, that this is farm raised and it doesn’t hurt the endangered animals, seem pretty reasonable.”

The restaurant has been inundated with angry e-mails, and even a bomb threat!

Personally, we think serving cooked lion just to honor a sport takes it a lot little too far! We bet that poor lion friend had a nice life on his farm in Illinois!

Country cutie Kellie Pickler is engaged to songwriter boyfriend Kyle Jacobs after he proposed last week on a Florida beach at sunset.

How romantic! Kellie says:

“It turned out to be the most amazing day of my life. My whole world changed…I remember saying to Kyle, ‘Baby it’s like I’m dreaming – but if this isn’t real, I’m going to be very upset!’
“Kyle took away all my fear of marriage and has shown me the way love is supposed to be. I’m in the happiest place I’ve ever been.”

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences is reportedly going to consider moving up the air date of 2011 Academy Awards to January!

According to a source:

“The awards season is too long currently. This will shorten and reduce the amount of campaigning. Also, it will make the Oscars the definitive awards show again. The Globes can’t move a lot earlier as all the movies wouldn’t be released yet. The only potential downside is how do people see all the films in time to vote for nominations?”

Another source, however, seems doubtful the date will be switched, because there’s simply not enough time for members of the Academy to watch all potential films and vote accordingly.

They claim:

“There’s a ZERO percent chance that the Executive team can figure out how to logistically coordinate voting that soon, especially with all the old people who don’t do electronic mail. And especially because [executive director] Bruce Davis won’t do anything that utilizes technology.”

Seems like a pretty stupid idea to me!

What do you think? Should the Academy Awards continuing airing in February or March or should Awards season be squeezed into one month?

Jay-Z can afford the finer things in life, but according to Air Platinum Holding, a private jet company, he doesn’t like to pay for them.

The company is suing Jay for not coming up with the cash for trips he took back in 2009. According to them, Jay spent 55 hours on their planes, but only paid for 37 hours. Not only that, he allegedly hasn’t coughed up for some of the additional fees that came along with flying with Air Platinum. His bill looks a little something like this:

- 18 hours of flight time at $4,500-per-hour (discounted from $6,000-per-hour) = $81,000
- Catering for 17 domestic flights ($500-per-flight) = $8,500
- Catering for 4 international flights ($750-per-flight) = $3,000
- International fees = $8,500
- Taxes = $12,285
- Luxury trip to England = $24,200

That’s a grand total of $137,485.00!

This is chump change for Jay, but now would be a good time to rethink hating on flying coach!

After reading the Paramore cover story in the July issue of SPIN magazine, frontwoman Hayley Williams took to her blog to vent about how the band perceived in the article and set the record straight.

She writes:

“The SPIN article … that was just printed about us doesn’t really seem to say anything about us as a band.
It seems that in most cases writers simply enjoy looking at us and exclaiming - like they’ve discovered something huge - ‘THEY’RE young girls!’ or of course there’s always, ‘THEY’RE CHRISTIANS,’ or ‘THEY DON’T SHOOT UP IN THE BACK OF THE BUS!’ What is this, the ’80s? Is it really that sensational that we aren’t the second coming of Motley Crue?
“I’m sure it’s hard to get a handle on any band within the amount of time given to capture ‘our story’. maybe reading articles about us just gets a little monotonous, that’s all.
I’m not actually friends with McLovin or Miley [Cyrus].
It’s my opinion that anyone who is coming onto our band looking for controversy is completely missing the point. the point isn’t in the intent of controversy, the point is that there is no way around it. as people, aren’t we all bursting at the seams with conflict and controversy? the point of our music is that there are human hearts in it.
We could stop looking for the wrongs and realize that they’re inevitable on the way to something more meaningful. I’m not totally preaching here. talking to myself as well, in case you wondered. who knows? maybe I really am just bored with giving music journalists the benefit of the doubt. like they’re really gonna let people know what we would want to tell them. yet still, I want to have faith in people. and anyways, what WOULD we want to tell people if we had that much space to write about ourselves? it would probably end up just the same.”

Writer Josh Eells wrote the following about the band:

They stay up late to “watch Spaceballs and play Yahtzee.”
They sing Hanson songs, and not even ‘MMMBop’ — we’re talking deep cuts. Their bus smells like popcorn and Twizzlers, and their chief entertainment is a book of hypothetical questions they take turns shouting out answers to.”

It sounds a little simplistic, but at least Hayley didn’t pull an M.I.A.!

Ted Koppel’s son died from an accidental overdose of booze, heroin and several other drugs, according to the New York City medical examiner.

The ME says Andrew Koppel suffered an acute intoxication from alcohol, heroin, cocaine, and a generic form of Valium.

The 40-year-old Koppel was found dead in a friend’s apartment last month.  He’d reportedly been out drinking all day.
