Actress and humanitarian Ashley Judd suffered from depression as a child when her mother, country singer Naomi Judd, was on tour. So because of her childhood, it sparked in interest in helping abandoned women and children in other countries.

Ashley is in the process of writing her autobiography about her struggles as a child, to encourage others who deal with the same issues. Here’s what Ashley had to say:

“By sharing my own story along with those of the beautiful and resilient people I’ve met in the most desperate places, I want to show how the change we seek in the world must start within us.”
